How Long Have You Been In Business?

I have been in business officially a year and a half.

Why Did You Start Your Business?

I started my business out of a personal need. I have been suffering from insomnia since I was about 15 years old. At that time I started taking the little pink pill in high school to fall asleep. By the time I got to college I was on about two and a half Tylenol PM's. By the time college ended I was on Ambien. I couldn't sleep without help. Then one day my mother noticed I was running through bottles of over the counter medications. So she told me "hey Micheal Jackson you need to stop before you die." So I stopped. But it wasn't fucking easy. It took me about a year to not touch a pill. During that time, I learned about herbs, and started taking classes on herbs and blending fragrances. Then I thought I should start a company based around sleep. But then I just sat on the idea for almost 7 years. Then, one night at 3 am  I couldn't sleep and went looking for pills. But then I thought "hey, let me see if there are any sleep companies around that doing things naturally." And of course there wasn't. So at 3 am I registered the domain name and boom.

What Has Been The Toughest Part About Being In Business For Yourself?

Money, Money, Money. SHIT COST MONEY!!! The hardest part is having a vision for the brand and trying to make things happen when you don't qualify for loans and you have regular bills. And managing it all. Right now I don't have tons to pay for multiple people so I only bring in help when I can.

What Was Your Dream Job As A Kid And Why?

That's a loaded question for me. My goal as a kid was to be wealthy. That's it...just wealthy. I have been starting businesses since I was 8, my mom says 6. So it's a part of the plan. I am an idea machine and I will be wealthy. I don't know why but ever since I was a kid I just knew I was destined to be rich and wealthy. I know in a past life I was royalty so I guess its my destiny.

What Woman Inspires You And Why?

I would say anyone that is self-made. I'm not one for struggle...so I would say Oprah, Bethany Frankel, Ava Duvernay. They inspire me because they transformed their lives and created careers out of thin air. That's hard and that's what I feel like I'm doing.

What Will Be The Biggest Challenge For The Generation Of Black Women Behind You?

I honestly don't think they will have any challenges. Their are so many black entrepreneurs now that the next generation will have so many examples.
