How Long Have You Been In Business?
Why Did You Start Your Business?
To be in charge of my own time, work, income and to feed the creative part of myself. Corporate culture wasn't for me. The restrictions and "do what your told" thing got to me. I needed more control.
What Has Been The Toughest Part About Being In Business For Yourself?
The hardest part has been trusting my vision enough to stop running back to a "real job" when things get tough/money gets tight. Trusting myself enough to make my vision work. That and juggling a family. Having children has made this divide where I want to be with my children but find it hard to relax because I'm thinking about money. Trusting & balance have been hard.
What Was Your Dream Job As A Kid And Why?
I don't know. I wanted to do so many things. Thinking about it now, though, freedom and creativity was always there. Just one day to the next that vision changed.
What Woman Inspires You And Why?
So many women inspire me; no one woman in particular. Friends, family... women I meet along the way that have this incredible "yes I am me but no I don't need to prove anything" energy. That's the best I can explain it. It's the kind of energy that makes me want to be more me.
What Will Be The Biggest Challenge For The Generation Of Black Women Behind You?
The struggle to hear her own inner voice above all the distractions. To love herself fully in a world that makes it so easy to "fix" your appearance or mask your personality. The same world that wants them to prove that they are different/interesting while demanding they keep inside the box. Relationships, lasting relationships of any kind, I think will be difficult as well. It's so easy to feel connected with "internet peps" that connecting with people in real life will become even more challenging. It's so easy to scroll pass people and not deal with the fact that real people sometimes come with difficulties & annoying habits but that doesn't mean that person is no longer worthwhile. These are the challenges I see, hearing their own inner voice above all & valuing others in real time.
