How Long Have You Been In Business?

Why Did You Start Your Business?
In 2013, I decided to pick up a hobby in painting. Then it became something I would do with my niece Avery, but ultimately it spiraled into something much more. All paintings, design, and content are created with the intent to represent our culture in all ways imaginable. From our hair, to our expressions of self-love, and self-worth.
KeeedsArt, LLC was developed as an avenue for depicting intricate pieces of our lives into compelling artwork to share with others.
What Has Been The Toughest Part About Being In Business For Yourself?
The toughest part of being in business is not being overwhelmed to the point in which I lose inspiration to do the work I love. I think choosing to open a business and work for myself was one of the best things I could have done because it allows me to work with my friends to collaborate on ideas and serve as motivation on those tough days.
What Was Your Dream Job As A Kid And Why?
My dream job as a child was to be a journalist. I wanted to be able to tell the stories of people in inner-city communities because I felt they were never adequately portrayed and told. And now, I feel as though I am still able to tell a story of Black and Brown people, but in a creative and unfiltered way.
What Woman Inspires You And Why?
My mother and sister inspire me the most. They are both compassionate, ambitious, determined and driven individuals who work extremely hard to give 110% of themselves in any task they are given or take on. They motivate me to work hard and never settle for anything less than my best in all my life's pursuits.
What Will Be The Biggest Challenge For The Generation Of Black Women Behind You?
It is a remarkable time to be a Black woman especially with such phenomenal trailblazers like Ava DuVernay, Issa Rae, Shonda Rhimes, Lena Waithe, Morgan DeBaun of Blavity, and so many more who are creating spaces for us along the way. However, it is easy to become complacent and mimic what has already been provided. Therefore, the biggest challenge for the next generation of Black women is to continue finding their own voice and their own path in life.
I believe the challenge will be to continuously look at ourselves and grow each day, reinvent the norm and think outside the box.
